Affinity Enrichment Grants For Low Income Students In The San Francisco Unified School District:
“Both Johnny and Elon will be attending the Skate Club's summer program, where they'll have plenty of time to continue enjoying their skateboards, and continue making new friends and exercising...I don't consider myself an overly-sentimental type, but these two outings (to the skateshop) were two of my most memorable experiences in all of my ten years of work in the human services/education fields. The excitement, smiles, laughs, good conversation, and acknowledgement for many hours of hard work, captured in these two hour-long trips to the skateshop is truly beyond words.” Cory Chechile, Program Coordinator of the Beacon Skate Club

The Affinity Grant Program was created in 2008 in response to a recognized disparity in opportunities available to San Francisco Unified School District’s low income students to participate in extracurricular lessons or activities that their families are unable to afford.

The program originators believe that children and youth who display an “affinity” to something should be able to develop these interests and talents despite economic limitations.”
