Donor Advised Fund Supports Small Schools for Equity
The June Jordan Youth Summit was an entirely student-run event that was held in November last year at the June Jordan School for Equity. High school students facilitated sharing sessions on 16 different topics, including: elections, immigration, racism, gentrification, community safety, bullying, and sexism stereotypes. About 400 students from over 15 San Francisco high schools and middle schools attended. The event concluded with key people in the community (including school board members, the mayor, and the police chief) listening and responding to student stories and calls for change.
June Jordan School for Equity is a Small Schools for Equity (SSE) high school, providing an innovative model of schooling that supports social justice education. Some of the high school’s programs are supported by one of PVF’s donor-advised funds. In addition to the Youth Summit, PVF’s donor has supported college scholarships; teacher stipends; purchases of books and supplies; a “ball give away” for basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, and volleyballs, particularly for student use during lunch and electives; and emergency and discretionary support of families and individuals in need at Small Schools for Equity.
We love working with our donors who find advisors with deep roots in the community to help direct giving with impact.
