Delivering Dignity for San Mateo County’s Homeless

 In grantmaking, grassroots, non-profit

By: Bill Somerville, Founder

A mobile shower, the first of its kind in San Mateo County, is now in operation and run by Project WeHOPE under Pastor Paul Bains in East Palo Alto. Called Dignity on Wheels, the mobile shower is designed to serve homeless people.

After years of planning and fundraising, with Philanthropic Ventures Foundation being one of the funders, the custom unit is here and comprises of a full shower, toilet, and washbasin. In addition, there are two clothes washers and dryers. Plans are for the facility to serve as wide an area as possible in the community.

Efforts to be clean are something sought by homeless people but often not realized by the population.

Homelessness continues to be an ongoing issue in San Mateo County. In East Palo Alto alone, close to 50 people need a bed each night at Project WeHOPE, which provides shelter for the homeless.

Philanthropic Ventures Foundation stands ready to help with some of the ongoing operational costs of this effort, which helps bring dignity to San Mateo County’s homeless.
