Math Resource Grant

PVF’s Mathmatics Teacher Resource Grants provide invaluable resources to infants, toddlers, and our youngest students, offering up to $500 to bring books, materials, and other manipulatives into the classroom to learn math through play.

PVF loves to hear from our grantees about the impact this program has had on them and their students. Read a recent letter from La Honda Elementary School teachers Brett Miller and Daniel Brenne, who were awarded a grant.

“I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the generous grant provided to our school for the purchase of math materials. Your support has made such a positive difference in our ability to provide a well-rounded educational opportunity to our students. We are so thankful for your commitment to enhancing mathematical learning opportunities to all students.

With the grant pieces, we were able to enhance our curriculum with a variety of math resources and manipulatives. These materials have enriched our curriculum and provided our students with engaging and hands-on learning experiences. The impact of these resources extends beyond the classroom, empowering our students to develop strong mathematical skills and a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.

Your generosity has not only benefited our current students but will continue to impact future generations of learners. By investing in math education, you are helping to shape the future leaders, innovators, and problem-solvers of tomorrow.

We are truly grateful for your support and partnership in our mission to provide quality education to all students. Your belief in the importance of math education has inspired us to continue striving for excellence in teaching and learning.

Once again, thank you for your generosity and commitment to our school community. We look forward to sharing the success stories of our students as they flourish academically with the aid of the math materials provided through your grant.” – Brett Miller, 2nd & 3rd Grade Teacher

“Thank you so very much for your generous donation that I used to purchase the Building Fact Fluency Toolkit for Addition and Subtraction curriculum for my combo Kindergarten/1st grade class at La Honda Elementary School. Early childhood math education is my teaching passion and I’ve wanted to use this resource since first learning about it last year.

This was my first year teaching a combination class and I found that because the mathematical development of kindergarteners and first graders are so drastically different, I could not combine math lessons using our district’s adopted curriculum. The games, image talks, and 3act tasks contained the Building Fact Fluency Toolkit provided the low-floor, highceiling format that allowed all students in my class regardless of grade level to participate together. This strengthened our already thriving classroom community and was something all students looked forward to each week

Currently in math education, there is a need for students to practice their fact fluency after they gain foundational understanding of number sense. You might remember from your time as an elementary student the pressure of timed math facts testing, and I’d venture to guess that you or someone you know may have had their math identity harmed due to anxiety surrounding these tests. My favorite part of the Building Fact Fluency toolkit is the way students are practicing their addition and subtraction facts without even knowing it through the engaging games. I am able to build each student’s confidence as a math learner in a low-stakes environment, which will continue to pay off dividends as they progress on their math journey. Thank you for giving students this opportunity through your generous donation.” – Daniel Brenne, 1st Grade Teacher
