Empowering Bay Area Students with Environmental Learning!
At PVF we understand the importance of teaching children about the environment in our ever-changing climate and we are proud to play our part by providing learning opportunities for youth throughout the Bay Area. Over the years we have received all kind of applications to our Environmental Science Resource Grant Program for projects and field trips. One of our awarded teachers recently sent in a thank you for a grant they received to create a school garden at Willow Elementary.
“As a K-5th grade intervention teacher, I use the garden with all of my students across grade levels. Our garden was destroyed during a campus renovation and many of our basic supplies were lost or stolen [and we’re] requesting funds to purchase supplies that all of our Willow students will benefit from.
We used the $984 grant to purchase watering cans, gardening gloves, steel cable and clothing clips to hang and organize our gloves, almost 9 cubic yards of soil to build a bed where we grew pumpkins and sunflowers over the summer, and weed cloth to manage weeds in the garden. For the first time, we have a garden that is fully functioning and accessible to all of our students.” – Rebecca Lacau, Willow Elementary
