Where’s Bill? At the Mt. View Day Worker Center
Where’s Bill? Follow PVF’s Executive Director, Bill Somerville, out of the office, for site visits and meetings with outstanding grassroots leaders.
Last week we attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new building to house the Mt. View Day Worker Center. The Day Worker Center is a place where people out of work can go to find work, to find friendship, to find training. Through the work of committed people, an abandoned dry cleaning building was rebuilt as a Center where day laborers seek jobs, study English, have access to health screenings, and can also have lunch.
PVF has followed the work of Maria Marroquin, the exceptional Executive Director of the Day Worker Center, and has given operational support funding, and has introduced funders who have given support. PVF’s grant was for a Discretionary Fund, meaning the Director could spend it as she and her staff thought best. As usual, our grants were made immediately, when the money was needed, and there was no application or other hurdles.
